How to pick your perfect manual coffee grinder?

When choosing the best manual coffee grinder, it's essential to consider the features that are most important to you. Here are some factors to keep in mind:

1. Burr Grinder vs. Blade Grinder:

Burr grinders are the preferred choice for coffee enthusiasts. They offer more consistent and precise grinding, resulting in a better flavour profile. They come in both conical and flat burr designs, with conical burrs being the most common for manual grinders.

Blade grinders are less expensive but produce uneven grounds, which can affect the taste of your coffee.

Grinders from ‘The Brew Mates’ are equipped with upgraded conical burr. The below picture shows the development of burr we used in our grinders (from left to right). All of our current grinders adopt the latest high-precision hexagonal conical burr.

This ungraded coffee burr has further improved the efficiency, making the grind smoother and more labor-saving. The conical burr is made of food-grade 420 stainless steel, which is green and safe as well.

2. Grind Size Settings:

Look for a manual grinder with adjustable grind size settings. This allows you to grind coffee to your preferred coarseness or fineness, which is crucial for different brewing methods (e.g. espresso, French press, pour-over)

Grinders from ‘The Brew Mates’ have a built-in digitally adjustable grind dial with 24-click settings to ensure the fitness you need for all sorts of brewing methods.

3. Build Quality and Materials

Opt for grinders made of durable materials like stainless steel, ceramic, or high-quality plastic. These materials will last longer and are less likely to impart any unwanted flavours to your coffee.

4. Ease of Use:

Look for a grinder with an ergonomic design and a smooth, easy-to-operate hand crank. You should be comfortable using it, especially if you're grinding coffee every day.

Our most poplar creamy white grinder is a combination of high-density aviation aluminium alloy shell, wood handle and an inside 420 stainless steel burr, which not only provides our customers a more comfortable experience in hand, and also a smoothing and efficient grind experience.

5. Capacity

Consider how much coffee you typically brew at once. Some manual grinders have larger hoppers and can grind more coffee in one go, while others are more compact and suitable for single servings.

We have different capacity grinders for you to choose in ‘The Brew Mates’.

6. Portability

If you plan to use your grinder while traveling or outdoors, choose a compact and portable manual grinder that's easy to pack and carry.

7. Price

Manual grinders come in a wide price range. Although normally people say higher-priced grinders offer a more consistent grind and are generally easier to use, you can always choose a grinder that offers the best balance of quality and features within your budget.
